The Chocolate Block
£29.50
Description
The Chocolate Block has long been a cult favourite. Produced by Boekenhoutskloof — named South Africa’s Winery of the Year 2020 — this wine has a loyal following and a reputation for depth, richness and mystery. Winemaker Marc Kent is famously secretive about the exact blend, tweaking the recipe each vintage so no two Chocolate Blocks are ever quite the same.
The wine is typically built around Syrah, supported by Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and a hint of Viognier for aromatic lift. Full and round on the palate, it bursts with ripe raspberry and blackcurrant, alongside layers of leather, earth, chocolate, spice and subtle oak. It pairs beautifully with spice-rubbed steaks, roast rib of beef, or game dishes.
